Testimonials from participants in the French-English theater workshop

The International Club of Paris’ French-English theater workshop brings together French and international participants every week for improvisation games, work on French and English texts (plays, film scripts, etc.), and bilingual exercises.
Beyond theater practice, it is a space to gain confidence, improve oral fluency in both French and English, and experience a true moment of intercultural exchange.

Here are testimonials from several participants after completing about two months of the workshop.

Achraf, Tunisian, consulting engineer

What makes this workshop unique is really the mix of cultures and languages.

In traditional workshops, we often stick to one language, with a generally consistent level. Here, participants come from all over the world, and switching between French and English makes the exercises more lively and fun.

I highly recommend this theater workshop, without hesitation, to both French and international participants. It is an ideal workshop for improving your oral fluency, meeting people, and above all, stepping outside your comfort zone in a very encouraging environment. It is also a great way to practice a foreign language without it being academic or stressful.

After participating in the workshop for two months, I feel more comfortable speaking, both in French and English. I am less hesitant to speak in public, I am more expressive, and I am better at improvising. I also feel an improvement in my overall confidence and my ability to collaborate with people from different cultures.

Artemis, Greek-British-Swiss, consultant

Thanks to the French-English theater workshop at the International Club of Paris, I was able to improve my eloquence in both French and English, even though I am already bilingual in both languages. I saw how much it improved my eloquence, creativity, and communication skills.

I think this activity clearly helped improve my creativity, spontaneity, and interpersonal communication skills.

It is always very enriching to interact with people from different backgrounds and learn more about their experiences, origins, and what they do. The diversity of the participants in this theater workshop is truly unique.

The workshop made me want to continue doing theater or improvisation, or both. I would be very happy to participate in plays or short films, for example.

Shamrose, German, project manager

I have loved theater since I was a child, both as a spectator and as an actor. However, it is not always easy to find a place to practice, especially when it is not your native language. The International Club of Paris offers a space to perform in French and English, meet people, and have fun in a relaxed atmosphere.

A session usually begins with warm-up exercises. Then we move on to improvisations, where you have to be creative and attentive to others. After that, we work on texts.

This workshop stands out for its friendly atmosphere, the variety of exercises, and above all, the fact that we work in two languages, which makes the experience truly unique.

I would definitely recommend the workshop. If you love theater, want to meet people, improve your language skills, or simply gain confidence, this workshop is ideal. I always have a lot of fun there.

After two months, I feel much more comfortable in French. I have more confidence, more creativity, and I am more fluent when speaking.

Sarah, French, Market Manager

I think theater helps develop skills, particularly in communication, but also in nonverbal language. It’s interesting to put this into practice and analyze yourself through workshops like this one. There’s also the linguistic aspect, where the workshop allows you to practice both French and English. For me, as someone who isn’t necessarily very comfortable speaking English, the workshop has allowed me to talk to different people from different countries. It’s multicultural, it helps you improve your English, but also work on your fluency in French.

After two months of participation, I felt an improvement in my speaking skills and in my ability to embody different characters, which is something I didn’t know how to do before. Now I can put myself directly in a character’s shoes, whether in improvisation or through the texts we interpret during the workshop.

The workshop has helped me improve my English through listening and speaking practice. It offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in an environment where sometimes only English is spoken, which is quite rare in France.

Dana, Belarusian, Event Manager

I joined the workshop because I wanted a space where I could practice French in a more playful, expressive way – not just in a classroom setting. It felt like a safe and creative environment to speak, make mistakes, and try again. I’ve done a little theatre before, but mostly in a very informal way, so this felt fresh and new to me.

Each session feels very organic. We usually start with warm-ups–physical or vocal–that help us let go of stress and become more present in the group. Then we move into small exercises: improvisations, character work, or scenes that we build together. There is always room for spontaneity, humour, and personal interpretation. Nothing is rigid; it’s more about expression than performance.

What makes this workshop unique is the bilingual and international atmosphere. You automatically become more open, because you’re navigating two languages and multiple cultural perspectives at the same time. It feels less like “learning theatre techniques” and more like discovering how to communicate, react, and create with people who don’t necessarily share the same linguistic background. That brings a lot of freedom and curiosity.

I absolutely recommend this workshop–both to French and international participants. It’s a wonderful way to practice a language without the pressure of being perfect. You can be expressive, funny, emotional, and completely yourself. Plus, the instructors create a very supportive environment. It’s not intimidating at all; on the contrary, it’s energizing and inclusive.

After two months, I feel much more relaxed speaking French, especially in spontaneous situations. The constant switching between French and English makes my brain more flexible, and I’ve become more comfortable with public speaking. I also feel more confident creatively: writing a story from the point of view of someone arriving with a different culture and language was a great exercise. Overall, the workshop has helped me loosen up, trust my instincts more, and enjoy the process.

Amélie, Syrian-French, developer

I decided to participate in the French-English theater workshop to improve my skills in both languages, develop my public speaking abilities, gain confidence, and feel more comfortable in front of people I don’t know. It’s also a way to improve my soft skills. This is my first time doing theater, and I find the workshop really interesting.

A session usually begins with warm-up and vocal exercises. Then we do improvisations before performing short excerpts from plays in French and/or English. The atmosphere is pleasant and dynamic: we laugh a lot, learn from each other, and discover new things at each session.

I find this theater workshop at the International Club particularly original. It’s not just about improving your language skills: it’s also a place to meet people of different nationalities and share a friendly moment.

I highly recommend this workshop. It teaches useful skills, enriches your personal culture, and helps you push your limits.

After two months, I feel I have made real progress: in French, in English, in my public speaking, and in my ability to be myself, without shyness or embarrassment.

Allan, French, archivist

I decided to participate in the workshop to improve my public speaking skills, improve my English, break the routine, and have fun. It was a success on all four counts.

We work on very different texts by changing partners, which is very educational.

I recommend the workshop for improving your English; it’s more interactive than a conversation and more lively. I imagine it must also be a fun way to learn French, less academic than what we’re used to.

After two months of participation, I speak English more fluently and with more confidence, I’ve made some progress in theater and discovered some beautiful texts.
